Chapter Update

Dear NIRI Seattle Members, Colleagues, and Friends:

Welcome!  Hosting the new NIRI National President Jim Cudahy in both Seattle and Portland was a perfect way to end the program year.  Jim’s coming on board and touring the country on a listening tour has generated much discussion about how to make NIRI an even more valuable tool in one’s professional development.  We were glad to be part of that discussion.

We welcome NIRI National’s increased attention to professional development.  At the national level, NIRI is finalizing the details of its certification program and sending its comprehensive Body of Knowledge to be published.  Just last week, NIRI’s Annual Conference hosted a week of events for more than 1,400 registrants in Chicago.  The opportunities for increasing one’s knowledge and understanding of the capital markets, investor interaction, corporate governance, and all other matters that make up investor relations have never been greater.

How can we best augment those efforts at the local level?  Seattle is one of the fastest-growing and most vibrant cities in America, with a rapidly expanding community of industry professionals with a wide range of experiences.  How can we make NIRI Seattle the go-to organization for the IR practitioner looking to enrich their professional life here in the Pacific Northwest?

In the last couple of weeks we put out a call for nominations for membership to our board.  We hope you consider joining us at that level.  Whether you join us at the board level or not, we welcome your help in making NIRI Seattle what you want it to be.

All the best for a great summer.  We look forward to seeing you in the fall.

2014-15 NIRI Seattle Chapter President

Recent Events

In addition to some webcasts and our informal social networking events, we hosted a number of event during the spring, including:

In July we have an opportunity to participate in the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) for a director-driven forum.  This event is being offered complimentary to NIRI Seattle members.

In May we hosted NIRI’s new president and CEO, Jim Cudahy, at social networking receptions in Seattle and in Portland. These events gave us an opportunity to hear Jim’s insights and learnings from his whirlwind tour of other NIRI chapters. It also gave our chapter members and friends a chance to provide thoughts on the direction of the organization, as Jim shared his top priorities for NIRI.

In March we partnered with our friends at Perkins Coie for a discussion on “Shareholder Engagement in the Era of Activism,” presented by Andrew Bor, one of the area’s leading legal experts in the field.

In January we got a general update on housing and the economy and the impact on those of us working with the investment community from Svenja Maarit Gudell, the Senior Director of Economic Research at Zillow, which hosted the event.
